Sintered ceramic consisting of single perovskite phase

Abstract

A single phase perovskite-based sintered ceramic of composition (I) is new. A single phase perovskite-based sintered ceramic, for NTC (negative temperature coefficient) thermistors having high sensitivity and high thermal and aging stability, has the composition (I) MIIxMIII1-xTiIVx+yCoIIyCoIII1-x-2yO3 (I), where x = 0 to less than 1 and y = greater than 0 and less than 2(1-x). An Independent claim is also included for production of the above sintered ceramic, in which a stable ceramic of single perovskite phase is formed from starting materials comprising MIIICoO3 (e.g. LaCoO3), MIII2Ti2O7 (e.g. La2Ti2O7) and SrTiO3 or BaTiO3.
